Cat 5e/6 Ethernet
Ethernet over twisted pair refers to the use of cables that contain insulated copper wires twisted together in pairs for the physical layer of an Ethernet network.
- Category 5/5e is used in 10BASE-T (10 Mbit/s) and 100BASE-T (100 Mbit/s) networks, but can be used for Gigabit (1000BASE-T).
- Category 6 is suitable for 1000BASE-T / 1000BASE-TX (Gigabit Ethernet), and is backwards compatible with 10BASE-T / 100BASE-T.
